When a domain expires, it is pointed to special nameservers. Your website and mail services are not active while your domain is expired, but the nameservers are reverted right after the expiration.
Unfortunately, nameservers propagation may take up to 24-72 hours because most ISPs save DNS information in their cache it may take time for them to clear the cache and to show the updated information.
In other words, the website and mail may be still inactive within up to 24-72 hours after the domain was reactivated.
Please also check your domain in Whois, if the status is "redemptionPeriod", your renewal order most probably failed and you will receive the refund shortly. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org in such case.
